Crusader Kings II Review: Crusader Kings II is a grand strategy video game set in the High & Late Middle Ages developed by Paradox Development Studio & published by Paradox Interactive as a sequel to Crusader Kings. The game was released for Microsoft Windows on 14th of February, 2012 to positive reviews. On 24th of May, 2012 a Mac OS X version was released. Crusader Kings II contains numerous historical figures such as Harold Godwinson, Constantine X Doukas, Robert Guiscard, William the Conqueror, Richard I of England, Harald Hardrada, El Cid, Alexios I Komnenos, & Saladin. Crusader Kings II is a dynasty simulator where the player controls a Medieval dynasty from 1066 to 1453. In the game, through the strategic use of war, marriages & assassinations amongst many other things, player works to achieve success for his dynasty. The only in game objective is to obtain as many prestige points as possible to surpass the various historically relevant Christian dynasties in a fictional prestige ranking. When the player dies, game is then over & does not have an heir from his dynasty to succeed him. Crusader Kings II employs a genetics & education system where children will inherit most traits, religion, culture, & skills from their parents & guardian. It adds an additional strategy to marriages where a player is able to attempt to breed the best individuals to maximise the quality of future offspring. A player can choose almost any landed noble to play. Some are unplayable without the use of mods, notably: Theocracies & landed Holy Orders. Pagans are unplayable at the start of the game but the player can convert to a Pagan religion & play freely. Muslims & Republics are playable with the Sword of Islam & The Republic DLC respectively. There are 5 levels of authority in the game.
