The Secret of Monkey Island Review: The Secret of Monkey Island is a point & click graphic adventure game. The game was developed & published by Lucasfilm Games. The Secret of Monkey Island takes place in a fantastical version of the Caribbean during the age of piracy. In the game, the player assumes the role of Guybrush Threepwood, who is a young man and dreams of becoming a pirate to explores fictional islands while solving puzzles. The game has been conceived in 1988 by Lucasfilm employee Ron Gilbert. Ron designed it with Tim Schafer & Dave Grossman. The Gilbert's frustrations with contemporary adventure titles led him to make the player character's death impossible, means the gameplay focused the game on exploration. The game atmosphere was based on that of the Pirates of the Caribbean theme park ride. The Secret of Monkey Island was the 5th game built with the SCUMM engine. The Secret of Monkey Island was praised by the critics for its humor, audiovisuals, & gameplay. The Secret of Monkey Island spawned a number of sequels, and collectively known as Monkey Island series.

The Secret of Monkey Island Gameplay: The game is a 2D adventure game played from a 3rd-person perspective. Through a point & click interface, player guides protagonist Guybrush Threepwood through the game's world & interacts with the environment by selecting from 12 verb commands such as "talk to" for communicating with characters & "pick up" for collecting items between commands & the world's objects in order to successfully solve puzzles & thus progress in the game.
