Miasmata Game Review: Miasmata is a survival independent video game. It was developed by brothers Joe & Bob Johnson under the studio name IonFX. The game was released on 28th of November, 2012 on the digital distribution platforms GOG.com & Steam, as part of their Steam Greenlight program. Players assume the role of Robert Hughes in the game. Robert Hughes is a plague-stricken scientist and he explores a seemingly uninhabited island by seeking out medicinal plants in an attempt to find a cure.
Miasmata Gameplay: Miasmata is a 1st person survival adventure game in which the player attempts to navigate an ailing protagonist across treacherous terrain & past an enigmatic threat in pursuit of medicinal plants or fungi that may cure him. In the game, the disease can cause rapid dehydration if water is not regularly consumed, & while Robert does carry a small canteen this is not enough for long trips inland or when stuck in the wilderness at night. In Miasmata, other threats include falling down steep cliffs & being stalked by the island's territorial creature. Coming close to drowning or a small fall cause significant disorientation. Robert can ameliorate the disease's effects by creating medication at research stations. Simple anti-fever tablets can be constructed which permanently enhance his strength & agility which are helpful while exploring the dangerous island.[4] Medicines are produced by finding plants then taking them back to a research camp, & processing them into tablets and tonics. Miasmata features an intricate cartography system based on triangulation techniques. The game was well received by critics.
